  • Statement of CC of CGPI, February 26, 2020

    Since February 24, gangs armed with petrol, pistols, lathis, swords, stones, and other weapons, have been on a rampage in North East Delhi District unleashing violence and anarchy.

    They have attacked and desecrated mosques and tombs. They have targeted homes, properties and businesses of people, indulging in widespread burning and looting.

  • Onward with the struggle to bring decision-making power into the people’s hands!

    The Constitution empowers the Party with majority support in the Central Parliament to impose its will on all. Even if lakhs and lakhs of people are opposed to a law passed by Parliament, they cannot do anything about it. The Central government can invoke provisions in the Constitution to impose a legislation even if numerous state governments and crores of people are opposed to it.

  • On 24th January 2020, in a sudden move, the Central Government instructed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over investigation into the Bhima Koregaon case from the Maharashtra police. The decision to do so was taken without even informing the Maharashtra government, let alone consulting it.

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for 2020-21 on 1st February in the backdrop of a sharp slowdown in the economy. The slowdown was caused by the fall in purchasing power of working people and peasants year after year due to pursuit of capitalist policies.

    A study of the budget documents reveals how anti-people is the taxation system in the country and even more anti-people is the way it is spent. Every service given by the government to people comes out of taxes paid by people. People pay tax every time they purchase a product or service. This indirect tax is built into the price paid.

  • The budget has planned to escalate the scale of privatization and disinvestment. Some of the privatization plans announced are -
  • One of the focus of the budget was to make India “investor friendly” for Indian and foreign capitalists. This simply means that the Modi government will help the capitalists to earn profits higher than in other countries, to pay as little tax as possible, to allow them to bring and take out the capital without any restrictions.
  • Peasants’ have been demanding procurement at guaranteed remunerative prices for all agricultural produce and waiver of farm loans.  Peasants have been demanding quality inputs to be made available to them at a fixed price.

    15th February will mark 10 weeks of unabated protests across the country against the CAA-NRC. What is significant is the hundreds of women who are actively participating day in and day out in these protests.

  • Bihar Sanitation workers

    The workers of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and safai karamcharis who clean the city every day to keep it free from stink and rot are on strike against the attempts of the government’s decision to remove them instead of regularising their jobs.

  • 2-Day bank strike

    Bank unions across the county went on strike in 31st January and 1st February 2020, after wage revision talks with the Indian Banks Association (IBA) failed. Wage revision in the sector has been pending since November 2017.

    Statement of Delhi Regional Committee of Communist Ghadar Party of India, February 1, 2020

    An estimated 1.46 crore voters of Delhi will cast their votes on February 8, 2020, to choose their representatives for the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. The main contending political parties in these elections are – the BJP which currently heads the central government, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which is currently in charge of the government of Delhi and the Congress Party. The BJP has an alliance with the Janata Dal (United) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) while the Congress Party has an alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). In these elections for the 70 seats of the Vidhan Sabha, there are also several communist candidates, candidates representing smaller political parties and independent candidates.

    On 26th January, tanks and missile launchers will roll down Rajpath.  Fighter planes will dominate the skies in the capital. The military might of the Indian Republic will be showcased before the whole world. Our rulers will boast that "All is well" with the Republic.

    From Kashmir to Kerala and Maharashtra to Manipur, every Indian knows that all is not well with the Republic.

  • Responding to a petition filed by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Association for Democratic Reforms and Common Cause, a three judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice S. A. Bobde, declined to grant a stay on the electoral bonds scheme. The Court gave the Central Government and the Election Commission two weeks’ time to file a reply to the petitions.

    Mass protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens have entered their 8th week.  They are attracting increasing support within India and abroad, in spite of the lies, slanders, sedition charges and police violence unleashed against the protestors.

    On 26th January 2020, on the 71st anniversary of the Indian Republic, protest demonstrations took place in many cities of the US where thousands of people of Indian origin participated. Demonstrations were held particularly in New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta and San Francisco having Indian consulates, and at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC. Many other demonstrations took place in other parts of the world.
