Condemn the state oppression of the workers of Maruti-Suzuki

The workers of Maruti-Suzuki plant were attacked by the police and local goondas on 26th September 2015 when they were holding a dharna in front of the Manesar, Gurgaon plant for their just demand for higher wages.

The non-permanent workers were demanding pay increase along the line of the wage agreement reached between management and the regular employees two days earlier. On Saturday morning, the night shift workers got together with the workers coming for the morning shift and were holding a meeting in front of the gate number two for their demand for higher pay.

In the meantime, the police and the goodas of the Maruti-Suzuki management laathi-charged the workers. More than 30 workers were injured. Police has registered cases against 600 employees. Several workers were arrested.

The workers of Maruti-Suzuki Manesar plant have a glorious history of struggle. They has never submitted to oppression. On the other hand, the management of Maruti-Suzuki has had a black history of attacks on the workers. With help of state and central governments, the Maruti-Suzuki management has time and again tried to suppress the just struggles of the workers. Workers have been struggling to form a union of their choice. Management has created every kind of obstacle in this. During the struggle of the workers during July 2012 inside the Manesar plant, the Haryana government in cahoots with the plant management used the death of a HR manager under suspecious circumstances to unleash great oppression on the workers and their families. All the workers were dismissed. More than 150 workers were implicated on false charges and have been tortured and put behind bars for years. According to the news, more than 3000 workers continue to be casual workers. There are no rights for these casual workers. There is blatant violation of the labour laws. Maruti-Suzuki management has maintained an army of goodas. Through these goondas and the state police, they are depriving the workers of their rights.

Mazdoor Ekta Lehar strongly condemns the state oppression of the workers of Maruti-Suzuki and supports their just struggle.

Manifesto 2014Unite around the program to reconstitute the Indian Republic and reorient the economy to ensure prosperity and protection for all!

There is growing realisation among workers, peasants and other self-employed people that the program of liberalisation and privatisation only serves to enrich an exploiting minority at their expense. Mass resistance is growing to this anti-worker, anti-peasant and anti-national program.
