International Women’s Day march in Kurukshetra

The Jan Sangharsh Manch Haryana organised a march and public meeting in Kurukshetra on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Hundreds of women took part in the march. Everyone had assembled at the Thanesar railway station in Kurukshetra, from where the march began. The march passed through the market area of Thanesar city and reached the old bus stand where a public meeting was held. Throughout the march, the protesters raised slogans against the the Central and state governments. The participants of the march held portraits of revolutionary women like Clara Zetkin, Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi, Savitri Bai Phule, Fatima Sheikh, Preetilata Vadedar and Rosa Luxumborg. The march was led by the General Secretary of the Jan Sangharsh Manch Haryana, Sudesh Kumari and a woman leader Usha Kumari.

Several leaders addressed the public meeting, which included Sudesh Kumari, Kavita Vidrohi, Vice President Usha Kumari, Supervisor Santosh, Shilpi, Harjindra Kaur, Komal, Santosh Loharmajra, Santosh Faral and Hina, and others.

Those who addressed the meeting said that the International Women’s Day is a symbol of women’s struggles. After the industrial revolution, women became aware of their strength from the organised struggle to fight for higher wages and to reduce the hours of work. Women had organised a big march in 1908 to demand reduced working hours and for universal franchise.

Speakers said that the Citizenship Amendment Act is anti-people and it is divisive. It is against the interest of workers, toilers, women, Dalits and againt tribal people. They hailed the historic struggle of the women in Shaheen Bagh.

They said that Haryana government is not even ready to consider hundreds of thousands women workers, like ASHA, anganwadi workers, mid-day meal workers as workers. Government is depriving MNREGA workers and construction workers of even the meagre facilities that they were getting earlier. Government is not doing anything for women who are victims of domestic violence, widows or divorced to gain employment or shelter.

The meeting concluded wtth the resolve to keep up the struggle against the oppression and exploitation of women.
