I thank you for carrying the article that has been carried in the March 16-31, 2016 issue of MEL to mark the 85th anniversary of the execution of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, three great martrys of the Indian Revolution. Indeed, it is worth recalling here that the Indian Revolution is far from completed and a lot of work needs to be done in order to realise its victory.
It needs to be noted that the Indian bourgeoisie also celebrates these martyrs as these figures have a hallowed place in the hearts of the Indian people. However, the bourgeoisie seeks to obfuscate what they actually stood for, and for what they gave up their lives. It obfuscates the fact that they did not seek clemency and through their supreme sacrifice they would remind the people of the task unfinished, which was that of the total emancipation from exploitation and the establishing of a new society, based on scientific principles of socialism. It is an indubitable fact that they were Marxists and drew their inspiration from the brilliant light of the Russian Revolution. They fought for not only ridding India of British imperialism, but ridding her of all forms of exploitation. Thus by reminding ourselves of what they really stood for, we today advance the cause of the Revolution. Their sacrifice came at a time when the Indian bourgeoisie was beginning to assert itself and was able to see a day when they would replace the British as the exploiters. The bourgeoisie used the struggle of the people of India and their desire for freedom from British rule and freedom from exploitation as a springboard for their own ascent. It was through the Congress party and its office bearers that the Indian bourgeoisie achieved its aims. The opposing tendencies of revoutionary struggle and that of compromise were playing themselves out at the time of the execution of these martyrs. Sadly 85 years later their dream remains unfulfilled. Let us inspire ourselves from their examples and fight for that day when the revolutionary sun rises over India. Let us recognize that there are amongst us those who will rise as the new Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. Let us march on the road of the CGPI and make their dream come true.
