Study on “Whose State and whose interest?

On 2 October 2016 Lok Raj Sangathan organised a study amongst youth in Patparganj village on the theme “Whose State and in whose interest?” A well prepared presentation was made followed by discussion.

School and college students and young workers full of curiosity, very enthusiastically participated in the presentation and ensuing discussion.

Right at the beginning of the session Kaushal Kumar presented the background of the theme to be discussed. He said that through this presentation we will see clearly who has been ruling us since the colonial times and even after formal independence and whose interest is defended.

He explained that in the current day politics an illusion is spread that if one party does not perform its duty then we have the option of choosing another party to power through elections.  But it is becoming clearer that it does not matter which party comes to power, it does not work in the interest of the people, but serves the interest of the capitalist class. Parties make and implement policies in the interest of the capitalists. These parties act as managers of the capitalist class. People have no right to select who can stand for election. They are selected by their respective party high commands, and they are not accountable to the people in any way.

He then invited Rupesh Kumar to make the main presentation.

The presenter demonstrated how only one percent of the population that is rich is holding 53 percent of all wealth of the country, while the poorest 50 percent have only 4.1 percent. The workers who produce all wealth are getting poorer every year, while the rich are getting richer. Two lakh capitalists under the leadership of 150 richest big industrial houses are dominating and controlling the state and ruling over 125 crore people.

The presentation very graphically demonstrated that the present political and economic system has been developed by the British, and same is continuing after independence. People have no role. One of the most glaring facts is that the first economic policy was made under the leadership of the big capitalists of India in 1944 much before the formal independence. Those who formed the constituent assembly that drafted the Constitution were from the propertied and educated classes.

The presentation very powerfully brought out that Indian society is divided into two classes – the minority monopoly capitalists on the one hand, and a large majority of workers and working people who produce all the wealth, while themselves remaining propertyless, selling their labour power to the capitalist for a living. The entire state and the political system is geared to fulfill the interest of the monopoly capitalist class. To change our condition of existence, we must unite and come forward to establish the rule of working class.

The presentation was followed by intense discussion, which was presided by Kaushal Kumar, Rupesh Kumar, Krish Kumar Gupta, and Dharmendar Kumar.

During the discussion the youth expressed their anger that all these facts are not shown in the media, although it is claimed that the media is the fourth column of the democracy. One youth asked “when the workers fight and agitate for their rights, why it is not reported on the television or in any newspaper?” Pointing to the Bombay Plan, one youth exclaimed that this is not taught in our schools and textbooks. There were very many questions which the youth raised:

1)  Why was the present Constitution brought in 1950 in the name of the people when it does not serve the people

2)  Why does the police attack the people when they fight for their rights?

3)  Is the government responsible for the plight we are in although all governments are formed on the basis of our votes?

The presidium addressed all the questions and provided answers through discussion. The youth were very pleased with the interactive session, and said that they have gained immense information and knowledge and expressed their desire to join the organisation.
