Pension Meeting

Activists from 18 different organisation staged a demonstration from 1 to 3 pm at the office of the District Collector. Various speakers declared that as long as the government does not restore the old pension scheme they will continue to hold their protest demonstration. At 3 pm, the workers handed over a memorandum of their demands addressed to the Prime Minister and the District collector.

The memorandum stated that since 1st January 2004, the old age pension of over 4 lakh retired employees in Rajasthan and more than 65 Lakh employees across India have been denied by the state and central governments respectively. In the new pension scheme promoted by the government there is no guarantee of pension and there are many anomalies and uncertainties. Big corporate house are eyeing the funds collected under the new pension scheme to loot the money deposited by the employees to fill their own coffers. By introducing the New Pension Scheme, the government is working in the interest of these big corporate houses. Hence the government employees are demanding restoration of the old pension scheme.
